Tournament time!


The Harding baseball, softball and track teams will be participating in their conference tournaments this weekend. The Great American Conference baseball tournament will be a six-team double elimination tournament. The GAC softball tournament will be made of eight teams and also will be double elimination. Both teams will be the No. 4 seed in their tournament. The Bisons will play No. 3 seed Southern Arkansas on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Enid, Oklahoma. The Lady Bisons will play No. 5 seed East Central on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Bentonville, Arkansas. Live stats and free live video will be offered for all the games. Go to for the links.

Baseball: Harding dropped all three games to No. 5 ranked Arkansas Tech this past weekend. The Wonder Boys won 3-2, 6-5 and 2-0. John Chapman led Harding in the series hitting .444 with four hits, including a double. Trent Wooldridge also had four hits with a triple, a run and a RBI. Andrew Fiddler came in relief in game two and pitched four scoreless innings. Fiddler gave up three hits and struck out five.

Softball: Harding went 1-1 this week as they traveled to Delta State last Tuesday in non-conference action. Brookelynn Moon led Harding against the Lady Statesmen. Moon hit .500 with three hits, including a double and one RBI. Courtney Derrick, the GAC leader in hits, had three. Amanda Berdon drove in three runs for the Lady Bisons.

Men’s track and field: Harding freshman Josh Syrotchen shattered his own school record in the discus winning the event Saturday at the 2014 Red Wolf Open, hosted by Arkansas State University. Syrotchen launched the discus 178 feet, 7 inches to break his record by almost nine feet and secure his spot in the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship. His throw was the fourth longest in NCAA Division II this season. The men had two other top 10 finishes at the mostly Division I event. Sophomore Corey Bassett finished ninth in the 100 meters in 10.72, and the Bisons’ 4×100-meter relay team of Bassett, Kevin Naceanceno, Ahmad Scott and Donatella Luckett placed sixth in 41.56.

Women’s track and field: Two Lady Bisons also participated in the Red Wolf Open. Shana Holmes placed sixth in the 400 meters in a career best 56.73, and Kristen Celsor was sixth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3.25 inches.
